Incident report
The first call out of 2020 wasn’t long in coming after the last call out of 2019.
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, along with colleagues from Edale Mountain Rescue Team, Kinder Mountain Rescue Team and Glossop Mountain Rescue Team were alerted to reports of a missing walker on the Kinder Scout plateau at about 3.20 pm. on New Years Day.
As the light was failing, the Kinder Search Plan was initiated. The Plan requires each team to search specific areas in a co-ordinated manner so that the maximum chance of finding the casualty, as quickly as possible, is put into place.
As team members were deploying, information came through to suggest that the missing person was in the middle of Kinder Mountain Rescue Teams search area, and that team members were not far from the missing person. As such all other teams were stood down and the missing person was safely recovered.
Although the call out lasted just 12 minutes for BMRT, by that time 22 volunteers had responded to the request to provide help.
