Incident report
The team was requested by North West Ambulance Service to assist with the rescue of a fallen climber at Windgather Rocks.
On arrival at the rendezvous point, North West Air Ambulance, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cheshire Police were also in attendance.
The casualty had fallen about 3 metres and landed awkwardly on his back. He had been given pain relief by the paramedics and placed on a spinal board by the time the mountain rescue volunteers arrived on scene. He was then placed on a mountain rescue stretcher and carried the short distance to the road and the waiting ambulance, for transport onto hospital.
The following day the casualty informed the rescuers of the extent of his injuries. He had had a lucky escape! He relayed his thanks to the team for our part in providing the careful treatment, handling and carry off.
This was another good example of a number of emergency services working together to ensure the safe treatment and recovery of a casualty.
