Incident report

An early call for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team when at 9.15 a.m. on Sunday 3rd September Debyshire police requested that the team attend the Monsal Trail following the report of an injured cyclist.
The casualty was a 50 year old man from the U.S.A. in the U.K. to take part in the Rapha, Manchester to London, charity ride raising money for “Ambitous about Autism”.  Around 300 riders set off at dawn from Manchester Velodrome for the 220 mile route which cuts through the Peak District, and the Chilterns on the way to the capital.  The final leg of the journey enters north London to finish in Highgate at TreeHouse School, which was founded and is run by Ambitious about Autism.
Unfortunately this rider touched wheels with another competitor on the Monsal Trail resulting in an undignified crash.  The man suffered hip and shoulder injuries and, although not believed to be too serious, they were enough to prevent him from continuing the journey.  Treatment was initially given by a Paramedic who was part of the event support team and who then handed the man into the care of the rescue team.  The casualty was taken by team vehicle to Miller’s Dale Station to await the arrival of an East Midlands Ambulance for the last leg of his journey to a Stockport hospital.
