Incident report
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called by East Midlands Ambulance Service following a report from a solo female walker on Combs Moss above Chapel en le Frith.
The 64 year old lady from Stockport had been walking on the edge path when a simple slip resulted in a suspected fracture ankle. Team members rendezvoused at a farm below the West side of the moor and climbed steeply to the ridge path in the gathering darkness. Not finding the lady in the first assumed location members split into groups to search the edge path in both directions.
It wasn’t too long before lady was located and medical treatment could commence. Following splinting of the injury the casualty was carried on a rescue stretcher back to the roadside where an ambulance was waiting to transport her to a Stockport hospital.

Hi,
Thank you to all at Buxton Mountain Rescue for saving my Mum on Monday night. All of our family will be eternally grateful for your help that night and for your ongoing dedication to saving lives. She had broken her ankle and is recovering safe and well at home now. She also wishes to pass on her gratitude for your help on Monday evening and for your ongoing dedication. She’s a very experienced walker and it just goes to show how easy it is for someone to find themselves in trouble while out walking. Words honestly cannot express how much we appreciate what you did for us on Monday, you’re all doing such fantastic work. Yours gratefully, Daniel Hawthorne.
