Last Wednesday night turned out to be a lovely summers evening, the perfect

backdrop for team members to attend Lower Withington W.I. to provide an evening presentation and discussion regarding the ongoing important work of Mountain Rescue.

Plans had been made for team members to attend the evening and present a talk and show off the most recently commissioned vehicle in Buxton MRTs fleet “Mobile Three”; but as the saying goes, “Best laid plans of mice and men often go awry!”

In true Mountain Rescue fashion the team received a callout late in the afternoon to a real time emergency on Kinder Scout (see Incident Number 50).   When duty calls team members professionally responded to the “call to arms” but it jeopardised the planned visit to Lower Withington.

Not wanting to disappoint the ladies of the WI, two team members, Dr Matt Stagg and Richard Doran living locally to Withington, stepped in to provide what they could without the aid of the vehicles or equipment.  Fortunately the two were able to provide enough of the background history of M.R. in the Peak from memory as well as enough of the details pertaining to the current operations, equipment, training and funding of the team to provide what hopefully turned out to be an enjoyable evening.

The traditional W.I. custom of tea and cake at the end of evening provided an opportunity to extend the team’s apologies for the sudden change of plans.  The team appreciates the understanding of the W.I. and is extremely grateful for the donations received.
