Emergency Services Day Success
Despite the weather taking a turn for the worse the Emergency Services Day held in Pavilion Gardens, Buxton on Sunday was a real success.
Owing to the temporary marquee on the promenade the show wasn’t a big as usual but it still attracted hundreds of people even on an overcast and sometimes damp day.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service was there in force with some very expensive looking vehicles and Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation provided an instant pot-hole for young people to try out their skills.
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team displayed its own vehicles and gave demonstrations on simple life-saving techniques. However, it was the climbing wall which attracted most attention with nearly 300 people, mainly youngsters, having a go at rock climbing for the first time. With special safety equipment and under the watchful supervision of qualified team instructors, some very young people demonstrated a fearless and amazing ability to climb to great heights.
